Ever had a feeling of not finding what you’re actually looking for and therefore started dreaming about just creating and launching it yourself? That’s exactly how Surya Swimwear's story started, in the spring of 2024.

While residing in India with my family, I always ensured my kids were well protected at the pool or beach. Luckily, there were plenty of options in UV protective swimwear available for them. However, finding adequate protection for myself was less evident. I mainly relied on sunscreen, but it quickly became a challenge. Often, there wouldn’t be anyone around to help me apply it to my back, and I had to be conscious of time to reapply regularly. I started longing for carefree and effortless protection for myself.

I searched the market and, of course, with a few clicks, I could have ordered a UV protective shirt. But that’s not what I was looking for. I wanted a qualitative, timeless, and elegant UV protective swimsuit that would allow me to fully enjoy the sun and the water without worries but with care. My search did not lead to what I was looking for, and that’s the beginning of Surya Swimwear.

At Surya Swimwear we believe a confident woman is the most beautiful woman. That’s why we aim to create swimwear that honors every woman regardless of her size, shape, or type. Every woman deserves the best UV-protection and to feel confident and that’s what our swimwear is happy to support and contribute to.

OUR PLEDGE TO SUSTAINABILITY

For us, sustainability begins with the creation of slow fashion. Our collection features limited styles - no fleeting trends, just timeless, high-quality pieces designed and made to be worn season after season.

We are dedicated to sourcing the most sustainable materials for our swimwear. Currently, al our swimwear is made using ECONYL® yarn, recycled from Nylon waste such as discarded fishing nets - and it’s infinitely recyclable itself. That being said, we believe there’s always room for improvement. Our ongoing quest for even more sustainable materials continues as we strive to reduce our environmental footprint.

For our packaging, we work together with a group of women from a small village in Chittoor District in Andhra Pradesh (India), who, after a drought slowed their agricultural work, turned to stitching as a way to support their families.

Our mission is for women to be able to enjoy the water and the sun while being effortlessly protected from the sun's harmful effects thanks to their UV-protective swimwear.

We believe our elegant and timeless swimwear will break down the barriers in opting for UV-protective swimwear, making it an attractive choice amongst the usual high-end swimwear in the market.

As we aspire to make UV-protective swimwear the natural choice for everyone, we dream to see many women confidently wearing their Surya swimsuits at beaches, lakes, rivers and pools.

WHY WE NAMED OUR BRAND SURYA

Surya is derived from the ancient Sanskrit language, meaning “sun”. Born and conceptualized in India, where the sun is central to life, Surya truly captures the spirit of the brand. Moreover, Surya embodies a sense of warmth, energy, and vitality - values we strive to reflect in our brand and everything we do.

Today, Amélie is supported and complemented by her sister Christine. With their combined expertise and shared vision, they are dedicated to creating an inspiring, modern swimwear brand that empowers women to feel confident and stylish.
